The Warburton Mountain Bike Destination gives six objectives as reasons for its development. One of these is to: “Enhance the health and wellbeing of the community – The trails will benefit riders who use the trail by providing an enjoyable experience, as well as exercise and associated health and well-being benefits. Members of the local and broader community can be expected to exercise more and become healthier as a result of the construction of the trails. Assuming that the average cycle period is 2.5 hours, the present value of indirect health benefits is estimated to be $47.1 million over a 10-year period for Victorian users.”
Active impacts The economic impacts of active recreation in Victoria – the Marsden Jacob Report 2018
This document was used by the Warburton Mountain Bike Destination to claim that mountain biking has a low injury rate. Problem is that the study does not include any mountain biking. It does not include any extreme sports, a definition that mountain biking falls into. Walking makes up 37% of the study and if you add other bipedal sports then that comes up to 55%.
